Popcorn Week and the Petting Zoo

On Wednesday, we were very lucky to have a few workers from Rural Route 1 Popcorn come in and talk to all of the Kindergartners. First, we learned all about the popcorn process from seed to kettle (or microwave)! The kids asked many good questions!

On to our favorite part...The taste test!!!
We got to sample many of the flavors that RR1 sells and then we voted for our favorite!

Many kids were brave and tried new flavors like Jalapeno!

RAINBOW POPCORN WAS THE WINNER!

Wednesday was also a special day because we got to take a mini walking field trip to the high school for the FFA petting zoo.  We got to pet chickens, sheep, a cow, a few puppies, and a kitty!

Baby Jonah

I'm sure the kids are wondering what I have been doing the past 3 weeks, so here is a little peek inside what has been going on! Jonah had his two week appt last week and was already 9lbs 6oz. He gained over half a pound during that time! He definitely is growing and is a very good baby so far!
Leah is in 4K, so she goes to school in the afternoons on M,T,Th,F. I love having the chance to spend time with Hannah by herself and playing with things that she wants to play with. We play with a lot of playdoh and act out frozen scenes with the Frozen dolls. On Mondays we go to storytime at the library and Tuesdays the girls have been going to daycare so they get a chance to do something different and to see their friends.
We also watch Frozen at least once a day. I think we could watch it on mute and we could say all the words! And every song has to be rewound at least once so they can sing and dance to it over and over!
He was getting a little fussy so Hannah thought she would give him the string to a balloon to play with. I am really going to have to watch her when he is old enough to put things in his mouth because I have already found playdoh and a tiny Elsa doll next to him!
This is how it always is, the girls can't keep their hands (or lips) off of him! They are constantly touching him, rubbing his head, kissing him, etc, because they "love him so much!"

Hannah thought he needed to wear a cowboy hat!
Leah probably has every piece of jewelry that we own on and is riding a horse.

Hannah got into my makeup and put some mascara on... doesn't she look beautiful!? After a while she forgot she had it on and scared herself when she looked in the mirror!

Carmen, do you notice the blanket!?
I usually get lucky and Hannah will take a nap in the afternoon. Sometimes she will lay down on her own, but sometimes she tries to fight it. This is when she was so tired that she did a 'slow motion nose dive' when she was sitting next to me on the couch!

I love being home with my family right now, but I sure miss you guys! I hope you don't forget about me while I'm gone! I love reading the blog so I can see pictures of you and find out what kind of cool things you are doing in school! I will come and visit in a couple weeks when Jonah gets a little bigger. I don't want him to get sick when he is so little! I will bring the girls, too! They are so excited to meet you guys and show Jonah off to everyone!

This week was also "friendship week." Each day we discussed what it means to be a good friend. We painted a mural of all of our friends that now hangs in our classroom.
Friends.....
Find something in common
Respect other students
Invite and include kids to play
Empathy-Show you care
kNow when to support each other
Do the right thing
Say you are sorry

On Friday we celebrated Taylor's Birthday. She even had some special visitors for lunch.

Our theme in reading is Weather. This week we started writing new books all about weather.

On Friday, after a hard week of working in math, we played number bingo. This is a great way to practice our numbers. Everyone had a chance to yell BINGO!

Wedding Bells

Last week we were very busy preparing for our Valentine's Day celebration as well as preparing for the Q and U wedding. We talked all week about why Q and U were getting married. We had tons of fun on Friday as we celebrated both of those things. We investigated words that had the letter Q in them and we found that almost always wherever you find a Q, you will likely find a U. We said that they were "together forever."The kids linked arms as we walked down to room 100 for the wedding ceremony. As we walked we practiced saying the sound that Q and U make together. /qwa/ qwa/ /qwa/ /qwa/.

We were honored to have Mrs. Bast say the vows uniting the letters Q and U into word matrimony.

After the vows, we had obligatory reception where we ate "wedding cake" and we danced to a few songs.

After the ceremony, I finally let the kids have a few treats out of their VERY full and VERY tempting valentine bags.

At the end of the day we said a giant THANK YOU to all of our very generous and thoughtful classmates.
