My name is Kristen (Lepeska) Nelson and I am THRILLED to be your teacher this year! It’s going to be a fun year filled with lots of learning and new adventures, and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us! I want to know all about you, but first I am going to tell you a few things about me!

I am originally from Montfort, I am one of 7 kids and have 13 nieces and nephews. I love being a part of a big family and we are all very close (my sister Lisa and I live the farthest away… and we only live in Mineral Point!) My family owns a dairy farm outside of Montfort and that is where I spent a lot of my time growing up. I still go out there a lot, but now it’s just to visit and not to milk, since 7 years ago they installed robots to milk the cows!

I graduated from Iowa-Grant in 2002 and went to UW- Platteville for Elementary Education. After I graduated, I taught 4K at Belmont for three years. This is my fifth year here at I-G and my fourth teaching Kindergarten. I absolutely loved teaching 4K, but it’s amazing to see how much Kindergarteners learn in a year!

I currently live in Mineral Point with my husband, Brent, and our 3 kids, Leah, Hannah, and Jonah. (As soon as we sell our house we are going to build a house in the IG district.) Brent is an auditor at Johnson Block, an accounting firm in Mineral Point. Leah is 5 and is a very sweet little girl! She is so much like me when I was little! She loves to draw, sing, go to the park, ride her bike, read books and help me however she can. Leah is in Kindergarten this year and will be in Ms. Fenstermann’s class! I am so excited she will be right next door! (She went to Mineral Point last year, so she is excited to meet new friends this year.) Hannah is 3 and is the complete opposite of Leah. Hannah will say ‘hi’ to anyone and is a little daredevil!  Hannah loves to play with dolls, read books, color, climb, run, dance, and is always loud! She will be going to 3 year old Preschool in Mineral Point this year. Jonah is 6 months old and is such a great baby. He can roll over to his belly, he hardly ever cries, and loves to laugh at his silly sisters!

If I ever get a little free time, I love to knit and crochet.

I can’t wait to see you on August 25th for Back to School Night! You will get your picture taken, drop off your supplies, see the classroom, meet some classmates, and see me! I can’t wait to start the year with you!

See you soon!
