Manny the Gingerbread Man

This week we learned about the gingerbread man! When we got to school on Monday, a gingerbread man showed up in our classroom! His name is Manny, and he comes to visit the classroom each year. He loves to watch the kids play and learn, but he doesn’t like loud noises… sometimes he leaves and goes to another classroom. A few times we even found him on our way back from specials! He must have missed us and came looking for us! One day he even put on my hat, gloves and scarf, too!

We did a lot gingerbread activities where the kids got to be creative and choose what the gingerbread man had to run away from and where he would hide, and we even turned our families into gingerbread girls and boys.

Centers!
Hidden Words- First the kids write their sight words in white crayon, then the use watercolors to reveal them.
Scribble Page- The Kids make a “scribble” into a new picture and then write what they drew.

October Page- The kids wrote a sentence about what special thing we did in the month of October.

Write the Room- The kids had to find 9 gingerbread men around the room and then write the words they saw on it.
Foam Alphabet Puzzle in Beans- The kids had to find the letters and then put it in alphabetical order.

Tyler can tie his shoes!

Math Centers-
Gingerbread Measuring- The kids stood next to the gingerbread men to see how many gingerbread men tall they were. After they answered their questions, they drew a picture of them next to the gingerbread men.

1-20 Cups- The cups were all numbered and they had to put them in order from 1-20, then 20-1.
Dice Game- A mini version of our dice game on the smartboard. They had to roll the dice to see if they could erase all the numbers 1-6.

Color by Number Turkey- Color the turkey the appropriate colors.
Number Towers- First the kids sorted the deck by suits and chose one pile to put in order from 2-10, then stack that number of cubes on top.

We made gingerbread men! The kids each got a ball of dough to make their gingerbread men. When they came out of the oven (Luckily none of them escaped on us!), we decorated them with candy (or healthy stuff if the Health Committee asks!)

Didn’t they do an awesome job!?

Most kids loved eating the gingerbread men for snack! We graphed “the first bite” and found out most ate his head first!

Aiden turned 6 this week! Happy Birthday, Aiden!
