Earth Day and Arbor Day!

Wednesday we went out with our 4th Grade Buddies and picked up trash from around the school. It is always such a great lesson for the kids because hopefully they second guess themselves the next time they throw some trash on the ground.
(I didn't get too many pictures because I was busy picking trash up myself!)

We walked over to the high school to help plan 4 new trees! The kids loved helping! First they listened to the book the Lorax, and then they helped put the dirt back in the hole. The kids loved finding all the worms in the dirt! It is so nice that the kids will be able to watch these trees grow each year!

The eggs are expected to hatch on Tuesday! We are getting so excited!

Please send an 8X10 or certificate frame to school ASAP! Thanks!

Eggs!

I just realized I'm a little behind on my posts here!
This was from Egg Day! This is one of my favorite projects we do with the kids! We are really practicing on being responsible for something other than ourselves. Some eggs came to school already cracked, and some lasted the entire day!

These eggs lasted the entire day! Great jobs, kids!

We also celebrated a birthday!
Painting our rain pictures! We were actually painting these right before the big snow storm! Maybe us thinking about rain helped bring on this nice weather we are having!

The Eggs are here!!

I hope your Kindergartner has told you already, but the eggs have arrived! 10 eggs were delivered on Wednesday and are in the incubator right now. They take 21 days to hatch, so we are hoping to have chicks around May 2nd.  We have been learning about the development inside the eggs. So far it is just a yolk with a tiny spot on it.

Mr. Schell (a retired teacher from Platteville who is doing Mrs. Pierick's long term) brought in his ostrich egg! They were so excited to see how big it was!

Have a wonderful 3 day weekend!

Penguins!

Did you know we made a quick visit to the South Pole? We visited a few different kinds of penguins and got to see if we were taller or shorter than them.
(I just saw that I had this post saved from way back in February that must not have gotten sent out.)

SPRING... is not here yet.

We have been learning about spring and eggs this week... even though the weather hasn't felt like it.  We started learning about all the different animals that hatch from eggs. We also learned how eggs can be different.  Some are hard like chicken eggs, some are soft like reptile eggs, some are squishy like fish eggs... The kids loved learning about all the differences!

Corbin got a GOLDEN ZERO!!! He is only the second one to do it this year!

Bubble wrap... it sure kept these guys busy for a while. :)

Next week we'll be learning more about eggs! I am sure you have already heard, but we will be hatching chicks in our room! We set the incubator up yesterday to get the temperature regulated by the time the eggs come on Wednesday! They are expected to hatch around May 2nd. The kids are getting so excited!
The Lindner family graciously supplies the eggs for us, but they do not want the chicks back! If any families would like to take any home, please let me know. (I think we will have about 40 eggs between all 4 classes… how many chicks will actually hatch, we never know!)
