Ice Cream

It’s OWL Good in Mrs. Nelson’s       Class! 9-12-14

This week we learned about ice cream. We have talked about what it is made of, how it is made and also the different flavors. Thanks to having Grab-a-Cone so close, Blue Moon was the winner when we graphed our favorites!

Today we made ice cream! First we read the recipe together and then the kids all helped to add the ingredients in the bags. Each table had a bag and everyone worked together to shake it. Boy, were they glad they had gloves! Even though it tasted a little different from the ice cream they usually have, they still liked it!

In math we have learned about Math Scenes. We read a book that each page had a number at the top, then there were that number of each object. (if the number was 5, there were 5 trees, 5 houses, 5 adults, 5 sheep...) This helps the kids visualize that each number has an amount. We made our own math scenes of 2 and 3. Have them show you them tonight! I have also sent home a page of the number manipulatives that we also use in class (we have a foam version). Please cut these out and keep them to use throughout the year! Right now we are only using 1-5 and they will match the number of squares to the number that is pulled down.

I have decided that each student will bring their own snack to school each day (instead of one person bringing snack for the day.) I will have a small back up snack in case one is forgotten. You are welcome to send a couple days worth of snacks to keep at school so you don't have to worry about it everyday.  You are still welcome to bring a class snack for birthdays though!

Reminder about Behavior: I use a behavior chart that everyone starts on Ready to Learn (in the middle) in the morning and throughout the day can move up or down, depending on their behavior. Whatever they end up on at the end of the day I will send home on a note. These will be the different levels (I am just adding two more this week):

“Special to Me Table”- I got a wonderful surprise Friday morning! Remmington’s dad bought a picture frame for each student and then burned and owl and their names in them! The kids are so excited about bringing a picture to put in them! Thank you so much Aaron and Remmington!

Es OWL Bueno en la clase de la señora Nelson! 12/09/14 Esta semana nos enteramos de helado. Hemos hablado de lo que está hecho, cómo se hace y también los diferentes sabores. Gracias a tener Grab-a-Cone tan cerca, Blue Moon fue el ganador cuando graficamos nuestros favoritos! Hoy hemos hecho el helado! Primero leemos la receta juntos y luego los niños todo ayudado a añadir los ingredientes en las bolsas. Cada mesa tenía una bolsa y todos trabajaron juntos para sacudirlo. Niño, nos alegran, tenían guantes! A pesar de que sabía un poco diferente de los helados por lo general tienen, todavía les gustó! En matemáticas hemos aprendido sobre escenas de matemáticas. Leemos un libro que cada página tiene un número en la parte superior, a continuación, había ese número de cada objeto. (si el número fue de 5, había 5 árboles, 5 casas, 5 adultos, 5 ovejas ...) Esto ayuda a los niños visualizar que cada número tiene una cantidad. Hicimos nuestras propias escenas de matemáticas de 2 y 3 que le muestren ellos esta noche! También he enviado a casa una página de los manipuladores de números que también utilizamos en clase (tenemos una versión de espuma). Por favor, recortar estos y mantenerlos a utilizar durante todo el año! En este momento sólo estamos usando 1-5 y que coincidirá con el número de plazas para el número que se tira hacia abajo. He decidido que cada alumno traerá su propia merienda a la escuela todos los días (en lugar de una persona que trae refrigerio para el día.) Tendré una pequeña copia de seguridad aperitivo en caso de que uno se olvida. Le invitamos a enviar un par de días el valor de aperitivos para mantener en la escuela para que no tenga que preocuparse de todos los días. Usted sigue siendo invitados a traer una merienda clase para los cumpleaños, aunque! Recordatorio sobre Comportamiento: Yo uso un gráfico de comportamiento que todo el mundo empieza en Ready to Learn (en el centro) en la mañana y durante el día se puede mover hacia arriba o hacia abajo, dependiendo de su comportamiento. Lo que sea que terminan en al final del día voy a enviar a casa con una nota. Estos serán los diferentes niveles (sólo estoy agregando dos más esta semana): A-MA-ZING! Guau! Eso fue impresionante! El papá de Remmington compró un cuadro para cada estudiante y luego quemado y el búho y su nombre en ellos! Los niños están tan emocionados de traer una foto para poner en ellos!
