Fall and Fire Safety

We had a great week of learning about fire safety and fall!

On Wednesday we had the Livingston Fire Department come to talk to us. The kids loved learning about fire safety! We learned about the gear they wear and why they need it.Then we went outside to see the fire truck and the equipment on the truck.

 

                 I got to try on their gear that they wear! I learned it was VERY heavy and hot!

 We finally earned 10 Big Panther Paws! We voted and decided to have lunch in the classroom!

When I asked the kids to bring in some leaves, I told them not to bring in bugs! Well... Braun brought a couple! We watched one on the smart board wiggling around! 

 We had fun checking out the holes, spots, colors and bugs on the leaves!

After we saw that leaves can be different colors, we painted our own leaves using several colors.

Trees

This week we learned about trees and some of the food they give us! Each kindergarten teacher bought a snack and we all got to try it! Mrs. Leibfried taught about cashews, Ms. Fennsterman taught pistachios, Mrs. Mayne taught coconuts, and I taught cherries.

We also started our guided reading groups with our leveled books. I have the class split into groups and we read a book that is at their level. The kids are doing wonderful! If I am not reading with their group that day, they are busy reading quietly with their book boxes. (Each day we are reading longer and quieter!) Once we are finished reading our books, I have the students practice reading it again by reading it to a friend. They get so proud!

Pointing to our words as we read is SUPER important right now, so we get to use a witch finger to remember to point!

I'm sure you have seen our sentences that we have been writing lately. We write the beginning of the sentences together, and then they need to finish it. I told them I am so happy if they even write the first letter of the word! If they can do more, that is amazing! :) I can tell some have been practicing at home!
