Ocean!

I realized I didn't take many pictures this week! It was such a busy week for me because we had to finish everything for the slide show... especially the binders and the picture frames. Then on top of it I had a few things to for myself for school! Now that all of that is behind us, there isn't much time left! Only 9 days!
We had so much fun learning about ocean animals today. I think this is my other favorite theme to teach (my other being penguins)! On Monday we learned about crabs, Tuesday and Wednesday were whales, Thursday was sharks, and today we learned about dolphins. I bet every student can tell you what the dorsal and pectoral fins are used for and they better be able to tell you what way a shark's tale moves versus a whale and dolphin's!  Above our coat hooks we have crabs, sharks and whales- we were busy this week!
Today during math I show them a "magic trick." I had a student pick a card and then I figured out which card was in their hand. They didn't know at first that I was actually matching the cards with their number partner (of 10) to figure out which was missing. They had so much fun playing it with a partner that I don't think they remembered it was math!
I hope you enjoyed the slide show! That night is the best night of kindergarten! The room was pretty full, so I apologize if I didn't see you there! I was very glad that everyone came, it sure is a special night for them.
Summer school information should be coming soon! I think they are starting to finalize the classes that will be offered and you will get a form soon.
Next week- The field trip to the ZOO!

Rain Forest Week

This week was such an exciting week for us! We got to see chicks hatch and learned about the Rainforest! The kids love learning about the different levels (ground floor, under story, canopy and emergent level) and the animals that live in each. We decorated the hall to look like a rain forest, too! We had trees, vines, a waterfall, and then we made different animal projects to add to it ! This is always such a fun theme to do at the end of the year!
Also, our chicks left us this week, too! Thank you so much to the Lindner family for providing us with the eggs and for taking our chicks back to their farm!

Emmett can tie his shoes now! Yay Emmett!

We filled our marble jar, so we chose to eat lunch in the classroom! Emmett's dad picked the perfect day to have lunch with him! :)

We found sight words in the newspaper! Sorry if the kids got to yours before you have read it, but you should be able to still read it!

And Courtney turned 6! Happy Birthday!

CHICKS!

When I got to school this morning all I could hear was chicks! 4 eggs had hatched! Sadly, one did not make it... :( I removed him before the kids came, but we did talk about it together. As I am writing this right now we have 2 that are working really hard to crack open! I'm sure they were waiting until it was nice a quiet in the room.
Mrs. Otte did not have any eggs yet in the morning, so her kids came over to see ours! Boy was it busy in here!

I know these are blurry, but they got to see how the chicks just snuggled up in my hand like it was in it's egg!

Our leader got to read to the chicks during Read to Self time. He even chose a chick book to read to them!

I put the incubator under the document camera so we could watch the two eggs that had "pips" in them.

This one is working hard! The kids will be excited in the morning! I also just noticed one more with a pip! It is so fun to hear them "cheaping" inside their shells!
