First Week!

What a great first week we have had in Kindergarten! I already know this is going to be a great group! We are doing a great job figuring out the rules and getting to know our routine. We have also been learning about bubbles and respect!

I bet you have already heard about "Brain Breaks!" These are videos, songs, and activities that we do when we need to get a few wiggles out! Some are dancing to Kids Bop songs,  and some are just sill songs we can sing to!

We already started reading on the second day of school! Our first sight word was I.  If your child hasn't done his/ her homework already, please remember to have them read their paper book a few times, sign the back and return it back to school! These are pictures of them reading their books to a partner!

 This was my partner. :)

Playtime and free time!

I "accidentally" spilled bubble solution all over the table! Instead of wasting it, we used straws and blew bubbles on the tables.  We learned that if you touched a bubble with solution on your finger, it wouldn't pop! You can also blow another bubble inside another bubble!

These kids could all blow up their balloons! Great job!

While doing calendar yesterday I pointed out that the weekend was coming soon. Almost all of the kids said “Aww, but we want school!” Corbin even said, “I’ll miss you, though!” I can already feel the love and it is only the first week!

Remember to send a snack everyday with your child!

Upcoming Information-

Welcome to Kindergarten!

WELCOME TO
KINDERGARTEN WITH
MRS. NELSON!

My name is Kristen (Lepeska) Nelson and I am THRILLED to be your teacher this year! It’s going to be a fun year filled with lots of learning and new adventures, and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us! I want to know all about you, but first I am going to tell you a few things about me.

I am originally from Montfort and graduated from Iowa-Grant in 2002. After graduating from UW Platteville, I taught 4K at Belmont for three years. This is my sixth year here at I-G and my fifth teaching Kindergarten. I absolutely loved teaching 4K, but it’s amazing to see how much Kindergarteners learn in a year!

My family and I just moved into our new house in Cobb less than a week ago! We are very excited to be living in the district now! Brent is an auditor at Johnson Block, an accounting firm in Mineral Point.

Leah is 6 and is so much like me when I was little! She loves to draw, sing, go to the park, ride her bike, read books and help me however she can. Leah will be in 1st grade this year.

Hannah is 4 and is the complete opposite of Leah. Hannah is not shy at all and has a mind of her own! Hannah loves to play with dolls, read books, color, climb, run, dance, play with playdoh and is always loud! She will be in 4K this year and I am hoping I don’t hear her teacher telling her to sit down or be quiet too much! :)

Jonah is a year and a half and is such an easy going little boy. He is starting to talk more and more every day and loves to play with blocks, balls, dance, and laugh at his silly sisters!

I love to tell stories about my kids to my class, so I am sure you will get to know them pretty well! :)

See you on September 5th!

One Last Post!

I thought I would do one last blog post before the summer is over. The time has come! We are finally moving into our house tomorrow (Friday)! It has taken so much longer than expected, but it has been completely worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat! (Yes, even with moving 3 times in less than a year with 3 small kids, having the basement in my brother’s house flood with most of our stuff stored down there, and just living half packed for so long. It's going to be like Christmas when we finally unpack everything!)
But, we were lucky enough to get to spend a lot of quality time with my brother, have Ayson and my parents right across the street from us, Mrs. Mayne and her family in our backyard, the Doyles a couple houses up, and the pool just a few blocks away! Oh, and I can't forget about Grab-A-Cone! But we only went up there once or twice. ;)
If I would have been thinking, I should have organized a moving crew with all of my strong Kindergarteners! Moving would be a breeze with all that help! :)
I am so lucky that I got to see almost everyone over the summer, and some of you MANY times!
I hope everyone has a great rest of the summer and I can't wait to see how much taller everyone has grown and how many more teeth have been lost!
See you soon!

Happy Summer!

I hope your kids told you about what we did on Thursday!
I told them they should say we wrote 2 journal pages, read 3 books, did math and had a healthy snack of carrots. They didn't think they should lie, so they thought they should tell you what we really did! Shaving cream, extra recess, popsicle, sorting toys, lots of brain breaks... :)

We drew with chalk on Wednesday!

Last Day Fun!

 Last time with this playground!
Our send off to the kids! Bubbles!

I decided to write this last post the night before the last day of school. I am already sad about not having this class anymore and don't want to stir up anymore emotions when they are actually gone! At the beginning of the year I was nervous about having 12 boys and 5 girls, but it turned out to be an AMAZING class! They worked so well together and I know they will always be one of my favorite groups! I am very lucky this year because I will always be able to keep tabs on this group since Leah is in it!
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer and hope to see you around sometime.
(And no, we are not in our house yet! We are still living with "Uncle Ryan" and it actually is going really well, except for having all our summer stuff packed away in storage. I am going to have to get that stuff out sometime! Hopefully we will be in our house by the end of June! They can take (almost) as long as they need to make everything perfect, right!?)
