Pumpkins!

What an exciting week we had! We started out learning about pumpkins by describing what they looked, felt, sounded (by knocking on them), tasted and smelled like. We didn’t actually taste them, but we have been using our memory)!  We have read and watched a lot of great videos and books about pumpkins!  Ask them what some of the HUGE pumpkin farmers use to pick up all the pumpkins!
We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin by reading The Pumpkin Book, and then colored and read our own Pumpkin Life Cycle Books. I hope you noticed the beginning of the pumpkin inside the seed in our books!
Tuesday was the day that Quinton Aaron came to visit us! This kids are still talking about him and how they don’t want to disappoint him by being a bully!
On Friday we began a pumpkin project where we used orange paint to make a pumpkin shape and made sure to leave the paint streaks on it to show the pumpkin lines. We will be adding more to this next week.
We started new centers this week.
Sight Word Leaves- The kids walk around the room finding the sight words written on leaves around the room.

Leaves Around the Room- The kids walk around the room and graph the different leaf colors.

Sticks in a Can- Each student picks out a stick, if he/ she can say that letter, he/ she can keep the stick, if not, it goes back in the can. If a red stick is pulled, all of that students sticks need to go back!
We practiced a new sight word by reading it, building it, stamping it and rainbow writing it!

Sight Word Memory- The kids played a game of memory by matching our sight words
One day our tables were too messy from a project to work at, so we decided to do our math workbooks on the floor! Not only was it fun for the kids, it also helped strengthen the muscles in their hands! :)

The kids love reading to buddies!

We were doing some yoga on Friday afternoon! The positions went along with a story, so their minds and bodies were getting a workout!

We had a tough week with the temperature not working right in our classroom. After MANY calls and attempts from the custodians, they finally fixed it! We had a secret recess while Mr. Nechvatal fixed it for us!

Remember to send your SECRET ingredient for our Harvest Snack!

Check out our visitor today!

Today we had a visitor in the our classroom! His name was Quinton Aaron and he is best known from his movie “The Blind Side.”
I’m sure most of you already know this, but he is in the area because he is shooting a movie called ‘Halfway’ at my family’s farm and a few local business. My cousin is the director/ writer, so that is why they chose our farm. Today he spoke to 7-12th grade about bullying and decided to stop by the Kindergarten rooms to visit his buddy Max Kelley (also my nephew) because it is their farm and house they have been using. We were lucky enough to get to talk to him and have our picture taken with him! He is one of the nicest people I have ever met! Always hugs and smiles! My sister, brother and dad are with him everyday and they say he is very genuine! I am so glad we have had this awesome opportunity!

Falling Leaves

This week we learned about fall. We learned a lot about animals that hibernate in the winter. We found out that lots more animals hibernate than bears, like snakes, turtles, snails and bumble bees. When an animal is hibernating, their heart beat slows WAY down, some only beat 1 every 100 minutes and a snail can hibernate for up to 3 years!
One of our projects we made was a bear hibernating on leaves in a cave.

On Tuesday, Mrs. Ostrem was here so that I could do some testing with the kids. The kids had a fun morning watching Finding Nemo! I am excited to talk about the results with you at conferences.

I am excited that the kids are becoming more confident with sounding out words. We wrote some sentences about what we liked, saw, or could do.

We have added another word to our sight word list.

Monday morning, the kids were surprised by the special area teachers with a PING PONG BALL CELEBRATION! Each time they have a great day in a special area class (Music, Guidance, Library or Art), they get a ping pong ball. As a grade, when we earn enough for our goal, we get a celebration. Ask your child what they got to do this time!

Remmington, Maddy, Zane and Kyleigh can tie their shoes! Yay! A few more are getting very close! Keep practicing at home!

(He had to borrow someone's shoe today) :)
This is a picture of our "Special to Me" table!

Wednesday was Kimberly's Birthday, and Sunday was Harlei's! Happy 6th
Birthday, girls!

~On October 31st, the kids have an option to either dress up in their Halloween costumes or dress as a scarecrow. It is your choice, but we are encouraging you to choose a scarecrow because we have our Harvest Celebration that day and make our Harvest Mix.

Kid Quote of the Week
When Aiden and Maddy bumped heads when they went for the same puzzle piece, Aiden said, “She has a harder head than I do!” Then they started knocking on each other’s heads to see who had the hardest. :)

Friday is also an EARLY RELEASE DAY!

Class pictures and playtime fun!

Doing math quietly on the carpet because our tables were still a mess from our project!
