A Few Things

I forgot to post the best part of Friday! We had Open- Door Playtime! This is when we open all the Kindergarten doors and the kids can play in any room they want! We will do this every Friday from now on!

I also had no idea we didn't have school this Friday! Last night my daughter was asking what was for lunch next week and I saw it on the calendar... I hadn't flipped my calendar to November yet. (As you could probably tell by the field trip note.)

Don't forget to send the field trip note back with your $1!

Remember to email pictures of your pumpkins to me! We have seen a few already and the kids love to share them!

I hope you had a great weekend... mine was spent with 3 sick kids.  So far 2 are still sick. :(

Pumpkins Again!

This week our big question was "What shapes do you see around you?" Our vocabulary words were materials, nature, decoration, nature, games, and world. Our new sight word is like, and we focused on the letter T.

Playtime fun!

 :)

 Happy 6th birthday, Jonah!
We used a paper with 5 rows of 10 to count the seeds. There were so many!

When we finally finished counting the seed, we found out that we had a total of 2,748 seeds from 4 pumpkins! We counted the lines on the outside of the pumpkins and 3 had 20 lines and pumpkin #3 had 23. I have heard the more lines, the more seeds. That theory did not work out this time!
#1 had 709
#2 had 623
#3 had 694
#4 had 722

Owen was the Master Counter. When most kids gave up, he kept going strong! He counted over 1000 seeds! Dylan, Isaiah, Morgan, and Oliver were also top counters!
I took the seeds home with me and baked them. I made 3 different kinds for the kids to try. We voted at the end and the Ranch and Cinnamon kind tied for their favorite. Spicy only had 2 votes, and one student did not try any of them.

We made skeletons on Wednesday. After we hung them in the hall I had the kids look like their skeleton. They looked pretty cute!

Wyatt, our high school helper, was doing card tricks for the kids!

The kids love to play with paper airplanes. I had them write our sight words and I stapled them to the wall. Before they throw their plane, they need to read the word they are aiming for, then they have to read the word they were closest to!

Remember that the kids can wear their costumes OR dress up like scarecrows on OCTOBER 31st. If you think your child might feel a little uncomfortable during the day, please send an extra change of clothes (or have some on underneath.) We are starting right away in the morning with costumes, so please have your child ready when they get to school!

Student Council will be babysitting in the cafeteria on both nights of conferences, and so will the book fair in Room 100. Make sure to pick up your Little Caesar's Pizza order on November 3rd in the gym.

Remember to email me a picture of your jack-o-lanterns if you would like!

Pumpkins

We had a wonderful week learning about pumpkins and reading Halloween books! The kids had 2 subs this week, one so I could test kids on their letters/ sounds and beginning reading skills, and another on Friday morning so I could go to an appointment. Both subs said they were a great class to have! I am a very proud teacher!
In math we are learning that each hand has 5 fingers and that we don't have to count each finger every time, we can count 5, 6, 7. (We call it the "fast five"). We each traced our hands to show the number sentence written on the bottom of the paper.

Our big question this week was "How do tools help us explore?" We learned that tools are all around us! Pencils, forks, trays, computers, hammers, magnifying glasses, etc.  We also added a new sight word! A!  Keep practicing our other ones- I, can, the, we, see.

Thanks for those who sent noodles! We used liquid water colors to change the colors and we put them in our sensory table.

It definitely does not still look like this! :)

While our noodles were drying on our tables, we got to use a new "tool" to help us write! Clip boards!

Sorry about the obsession with the Rubik's cube! Leah had it out one day and the kids saw it sitting on my desk. Some of them told me that it is impossible to solve without taking it apart! I showed them a couple youtube videos to show them it was possible. Kipton brought his on Thursday, and boy was playtime quiet with 2 Rubik's cubes being passed around! :)

On Thursday we had an assembly with Matt Wilhelm. He is a BMX Champion and came to talk about anti-bullying. He has broken 6 bones, but none of those hurt as bad as when people made fun of the way he looked when he was yonger. He reminded us that it just takes one person to step up and defend someone. He also told us to NEVER GIVE UP! He did some pretty amazing tricks! And so did 2 students! Oliver's brother was one of them!

"The Spiderman"
We had some pretty brave teachers be a part of one of the tricks!

Remember that the kids can wear their costumes OR dress up like scarecrows on October 31st. If you think your child might feel a little uncomfortable during the day, please send an extra change of clothes (or have some on underneath.)
Please send your SECRET Harvest ingredient if you haven't done so already! Thanks!

Remember to schedule your child’s conferences. If you do not have internet access, please call the office to schedule your conference. Student Council will be babysitting in the Cafeteria on both nights of conferences.
