Friday we had firefighters come to school to teach us about fire safety. First we went outside and got to see the truck and equipment. The kids loved seeing how many hoses the truck has and all the different gauges, levers and buttons there were! The also go to see how heavy the air tank and tools are that the firefighters all have to carry and wear!
Next we went inside and saw Mr. Hake, Max's dad. He is a firefighter in Madison, but also is a volunteer firefighter in Livingston when he is home. We learned that girls can be firefighters, too, because Max's mom is also a volunteer firefighter!
Max showed the class how to "Stop, Drop, and Roll!" He was a great helper and even showed the kids in the classroom how to do it, too! We learned as soon as you hear a fire alarm to get outside into your meeting spot to make sure everyone is outside and safe. If you get stuck inside your house, run to a window and wave your arms because one of the first things firefighters do when they get to a burning building is to look at the windows for people stuck inside!
Thank you to the firefighters for coming to our school and for all the volunteer firefighters in our area! We are very lucky to have you!
