Trees

This week we learned about trees! Instead of switching teachers, we just traded lessons. On Monday we tried cherries. We learned about how they grow and watched a video of how they were picked. (They use a machine to shake the tree and the cherries fall onto a tarp!) At the end we even got to try a cherry.)
Tuesday we learned about coconuts. We got to see a real coconut with the husk still on it! When we shook it we heard the coconut inside of it! When we shook the others, we could hear the milk inside. The video we watched showed a man climbing a tree to pick it. He was pretty entertaining. :) We got to try coconut as well.

On Wednesday we learned about pistachios. We learned they are picked just like cherries are and you can tell when they are ripe when the shell pops open.  Most of the kids loved trying the pistachios!

I brought out the "whisper phones" during read to self time (PVP pipes). Sometimes the kids read a little too loud and distract their friends (or just make it really loud in here!) After a little bit of playing with the phone, the kids will do a wonderful job learning to use a whisper, and they also can hear themselves better which helps their reading!

Thursday we made symmetrical butterflies. First we cut them out while they were still folded. and then we painted one side of the butterfly. After we refolded it and smashed it together, we saw how beautiful our butterflies became!

Friday we made fall trees. First we colored the tree with crayon and then added different colored leaves. (Using different colors of construction paper.) I love how creative the kids can be! They left some green leaves on the tree and glued some leaves in piles on the ground and some falling in the air!

 The kids were so into the project that it was almost silent! I don't care if they talk a little, as long as they are working, but this was crazy!

Reminder: The week of November 18th we will be having moms come to lunch! I know it is over a month away, but we wanted to give you time to plan! Moms can come to lunch with their child any day that week. Lunch is at 11:05.

If you haven't sent a white T-shirt for your child's birthday, please remember to do so!

Pizza order forms need to be returned by October 24th.  Pickup will be Nov. 3rd from 3:00 – 7:00 at the school.
