Fall Leaves and Noah

We finally met our goal of 10 big panther paws! We got to vote, and the kids wanted shoes off in the classroom! I really should have reconsidered this... too many shoes to tie! I hope we pick something easier next time! (FYI- if we have PJ day, I will send a note.)

Our new sight word is see! Keep practicing our other ones- I, can, the, we.

Friday was a busy day! As long as it was going to be a little busy, why not make it crazy! We started off by having PE, visiting Noah the Dog to talk about bullying, had Mr. Hake (Max’s dad), along with a few other firemen, teach us about fire safety, and then we had 4th grade buddies! WHEW! (Fire safety pictures will be on another post.)

Be sure to check my blog for more info! (http://mrskristennelson.blogspot.com/)
Remember to send a white t-shirt for you child’s birthday!
Pizza order forms need to be returned by October 24th.  Pickup will be Nov. 3rd from 3:00 – 7:00 at the school. (317523 Online code)
I will be testing the kids on their letters and sounds on Tuesday (PALS). I will be here, but the kids will have a sub. (Mrs. Langfoss) I will also be gone in the morning on Friday.

We have been learning about feelings and I had the kids show me either happy/ excited or sad/ disappointed. :)

This week we learned more about fall! We used the leaves that we brought in this week to do a little investigation! The kids had a great time comparing their favorite leaves with each other, sorting them by size, color and shape, and looking at them with a magnifying glass in the sensory table!

We each took our favorite leaf and had to draw it, decided what color, what size, and what shape it was and mark it on our "All About A Leaf" page. Our pages are now hanging in the hallway along with our leaves! They loved using the clip boards!

In the morning we went to room 100 and saw Noah! Noah was born without eyes and with disformed back legs. He uses a halo around his head so he doesn't bump into things, and a wheel chair to get around. But he also can get around without those tools! He can scoot around on his back legs and use his hearing to know where he is going! This is actually my sisters dog and she also has 4 other dogs! Some are blind, one only has 3 legs, most don't have any teeth! All of her dogs have come from a puppy mill or some kind of sad situation. She loves to rescue them, and now that she has Noah, she loves to come around to different schools and talk about bullying and empathy. The big things she wants the kids to know is not to feel sorry for Noah, he is doing amazing even though he is not like other dogs... and the kids loved seeing that!
(His Facebook page is called "Noah's Legacy: I'm a blind rock star, this is how I roll")

Noah even wanted to come with us back to the classroom. He hopped right in line with us!

This was Noah at the end of the day... Just exhausted!
